March of the Penguins

I am totally psyched about the new documentary March of the Penguins (www.marchofthepenguins.com). I absolutely love and admire penguins. They live and survive where virtually nothing else can. They rebuff the norms of nature by joining fish in the ocean rather than their kin in the skies and by allowing the males of the species to incubate the eggs while the females return to the seas to do the hunting. And, they travel long distances for sex (a personal favorite).

I can't wait to see the film!

Does that mean you're a Linux enthusiast? :-)

The only distance I've travelled for sex lately has been to reach for a toy on my night stand. ;-)

Ya know, it's so late, I'm bound to find humor in just about anything right now!

Actually, I prefer that lesbian-in-training Peppermint Patty. Oh, I'm sorry... you said Linux, not Linus. How silly of me. Peanuts characters I know. But, when it comes to computers, it's about all I can do to actually get things to appear in italics or bold on here. I am virtually computer illiterate. Therefore, I stick to the easy stuff... everything's Microsoft products and AOL for me.

As far as the traveling thing goes... I've been known to go quite the distance when I've found something in which I'm really interested. But, in the absence of that, the night stand seems to be a good, quick trip.

Ah, well that DOES make sense! If you don't already know, the penguin is the mascott for most flavors of Linux. The nice thing about having near illiterate Daddies is that the boys who are quite literate have yet another way to be helpful. :)

I have been known to do the same thing, myself. Unless I just can't find a realistic way to make it work out, I'm rarely not up for some kind of adventure. I hear you're going to be Las Vegas in December...

Ah, I was vaguely aware that the Linux mascott was a penguin. But, I guess I'd forgotten.

Yes, I should be in Las Vegas in December. There is a big pharmacy conference every year in December, and this year it is in LV. But, I may also be at another pharmacy conference in SF in October. :)

Well it's not all that important to remember. Honestly, I don't deal with Linux that much, but I think I'm going to start to after this week. I'm in SF in training for some software we purchased that runs on a modified Linux kernel.

Las Vegas can be a lot of fun. I'm pretty easy to please, so the nickel slots and good company get me by pretty easily. I don't know what sort of free time you'd have, but do you think your schedule would allow you a free evening?

October is right around the corner. This year just seems to be flying by, doesn't it? There is certainly plenty of things to do here in the area, depending on what you're interested in...

I usually have most evenings free during the conference. There will probably be a couple evening things that I'll want to go to. One night will be a dinner for a DI specialists group to which I belong and another I'll want to go to my school's alumni reception. But, other than that, I'll be free most evenings.

Well, if you're interested in planning something, I have a couple of ideas. I've got tons of vacation time coming (not that I'm all hot about spending a week there mostly by myself, but I could go for a day or two and keep myself busy during the day while you're in conference) and LV is a 45 minutes away by plane.

That would be cool. It just depends on what my schedule during the conference looks like. We can discuss it more when I have that.

Don't they also mate for life?

[info]rxdoc

July 15 2005, 11:13:46 UTC 6 years ago

They're only monogamous for each mating cycle (each year). Each year they find a new partner. Once they find a partner for that cycle, they will only mate with that one partner until conception. But, the next cycle, it's time to find a new partner.

I've been looking forward to seeing it since I heard a report about it on NPR.

Well, I'm pretty sure it won't be playing in Auburn, so perhaps if I make it up to Birmingham soon and y'all haven't seen it, we can go together.

I'd bet it does play at Auburn!

Well, we have one large theater in town (Carmike Wynnsong 16) and it's not showing there, so probably not. :(
